Matthew 17:5

This is my Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye Him. (Matthew 17:5)

By hearing modern evangelical preaching, one would believe God is completely consumed with each individual's thoughts, feelings, and cares. An even better way to express this attitude can be stated like this: each individual on earth is the main focus of God's love and affection. Every individual on earth can say, "I am the center of God's entire focus, state of being, and the center of God's attention and affection."

The Bible speaks of people who claim to be the center of the universe. In Isaiah 47:8, there are people who say "I am, and none else besides me!" The judgment on people such as these is the loss of children and widowhood. Further down the passage, they are described as those who will not stand in the day of the LORD, when He shall try this earth with fire (Isaiah 47:14-15).

Now, it may be true that God thinks about me all the time, and that everything that happens in the universe is for my benefit, but why am I told this by men who believe this very same thing about themselves? This causes confusion, strife, and division, when a group of people believe they are the center of God's attention, and they see other people vying for the sole attention of God. It is true of God's care for each and every one of us, but we need to dethrone ourselves from the center of our own attention, and discover who truly is the center of God's affection.

Jesus Christ is the center of God's affection. Everything that happens in this universe is for Him and His glory. Some people may say, "Everything that happens around you is God trying to tell you something." I would like to proclaim that something as being Jesus Christ dying on the cross for the sins of the world, and the physical resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Try looking around for ways God is showing you the cross, and you will never be moved. Praise the Lord Jesus Christ, the risen Son of God! Jesus is God!
